Amarillo Area Foundation Scholarships


The following scholarships are offered through the Amarillo Area Foundation. Amarillo Area Foundation scholarships are restricted to residents of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle, (unless otherwise noted). A student will be considered for all scholarships with the completion of one general application.  All applications must include:

(a)      a copy of the student’s high school transcript

(b)     a copy of the parent’s and/or student’s current year’s income tax statement

(c)      two letters of recommendation

(d)     current photo

(e)     personal essay on his/her need for the scholarship

 

The deadline for all applications to be received in the Amarillo Area Foundation office is February 1.  No late applications will be accepted.

Abraham,  Malouf & Iris Abraham Scholarship

 

Amount:        $500 - $1,000

 

Requirements:

·         Grade avg. of 80 or above

·         Must exhibit financial need, character, leadership, and community service

·         Resident of Hemphill, Lipscomb, Ochiltree, Wheeler, Roberts, or Gray County

·         Student must plan to attend and major in agriculture at TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY, WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, CLARENDON COLLEGE, or PANHANDLE STATE UNIVERSITY or

·         Major in the field of Home Economics at TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

·         Also provides scholarships to students attending FRANK PHILLIPS COLLEGE and  AMARILLO COLLEGE with unrestricted areas of study

Amarillo Handgunners Association/Bill Goodson Memorial Scholarship

 

Amount:        $500 per year

 

Requirements: 

·         US citizen

·         Overall  “C”  average or above

·         Engaged in or sincerely interested in a shooting sport or activity

Baggerly, Max and Dorothy Baggerly Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·        Graduate from an accredited high school located in Beaver or Texas Counties in Oklahoma or Hansford  or Ochiltree Counties in Texas

·        Based upon financial need

·        Must exhibit leadership qualities in community, church, or school activities, and have a good sense of civic responsibility

·        Minimum GPA of 85

Bivens,  Senator Teel Bivens Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·        Graduating high school Senior

·        Must reside in Senate District 31

·        Must be enrolled in the high school Honors/Advanced Placement Curriculum in either a public or private high school

·        Must pursue a career in the field of Education

·        Must attend an accredited college/university in the state of TEXAS

·        Demonstrate leadership and community service

·        Minimum GPA of 2.5

Bush,  Alvin A. & Hattie Mae Bush Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000 per year

 

Requirements:

·         Student majors in accounting and must plan to become a certified public accountant upon graduation from college

·         Student must plan to attend AMARILLO COLLEGE, WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY, or TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY

·         Minimum GPA of 2.5

Hazelwood,  Senator Grady & Andrine Hazelwood Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·         Minimum grade average of 80 or above

·         Student plans to attend AMARILLO COLLEGE, TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY, or WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

·         Must attend college the Fall semester immediately following selection

·         Selection is based on character, leadership qualities, and financial need

Jones,  Jake Jones Memorial Scholarship for the Learning Disabled

 

Amount:        $500

 

Requirements:

·         Must be a learning disabled student desiring to further his/her education

·         Exhibits strong moral character, integrity, ambition, and a sincere desire to achieve a higher level of education

·         Must attend a state accredited college, university, or technical school the Fall semester immediately following selection

Kesterson,  Robert A. Kesterson Memorial Scholarship                                             

 

Amount:        $500

 

Requirements:

·         Student who plans to attend West Texas A&M University or Amarillo College

·         Must attend the Fall semester immediately following selection

·         Anticipated that the recipient will continue to work while attending school

·         Based on need, record of scholarship, record of accomplishments, occupational experience, and current employment status

·         Must be a full-time student

·         Minimum 2.0 GPA

Love Your Neighbor Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·         Must be actively involved in church activities

·         Must attend college the Fall semester immediately following graduation

·         Must attend AMARILLO COLLEGE or WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

·         Letter of recommendation from a church minister or youth director

Raffkind,  Benjamin Gimp Raffkind Memorial Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·        Must attend AMARILLO COLLEGE or WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

·        Special consideration is given to applicants whose recommendation letters indicate specific ability or potential which may not be reflected in the GPA

Schroeter,  Paulus Schroeter Scholarship

 

Amount:        $5,000

 

Requirements:

·         Minimum GPA of 85

·         Must attend college the Fall semester immediately following selection

·         Must be enrolled as a full time student (remediation classes are not to be included in this status)

·         Demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities in school and community activities

·         Letter of recommendation from an educator

·         May receive no more than $5,000 in other scholarships or financial aid in order to retain eligibility

Seward,   Dr. Charles and Phyllis Seward Scholarship

 

Amount:        $500

 

Requirements:

·         U.S. citizen

·         Must attend AMARILLO COLLEGE or WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

·         Must be a Native American citizen

·         Must be working full or part-time at the time of the grant and the preceding school year

·         Based on self-motivation, worthiness, broad interests, and career orientation

Speed, Jerry M. Speed Memorial Scholarship

 

Amount:        $750

 

Requirements:

·        Exhibit financial need

·        Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA

·        Major in the field of choice with preference given to those majoring in the service industry, especially mortuary science and health

·        Must attend AMARILLO COLLEGE or WEST TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY

Texas Seed Trade Association/ Fred Woodward Endowed Scholarship

 

Amount:        $1,000

 

Requirements:

·        Restricted to children of dues paying members of the Texas Seed Trade Association (active and associate) and members of the Seed Division of the Texas Department of Agriculture

·        Minimum GPA of 2.5

Weinberger,  Jack B. Weinberger Memorial Scholarship

 

Amount:        $400

 

Requirements:

·        May attend any accredited college/university of choice

·        Must major in the field of health care

·        Demonstrate leadership and community service

Wilson,  Edith Lois Wilson 4-H Scholarship

 

Amount:        $500

 

Requirements:

·        Graduating Senior of District 1 Texas Association of Extension Home Economists

·        Must have completed at least three years of 4-H club work and carried home economics related projects each year

·        Rank in the upper 25% of the Senior class

·        Recipients must attend an accredited school/college of home economics, human sciences, or family and consumer sciences and major in one of the following home economics related areas: child development, interior and/or fashion design, nutrition or home economics

·        Applications are only available at the county extensions agent’s office or the Amarillo Area Foundation office
