College Search & Application Procedure
August - December:
· You should have three top choices of colleges determined by the beginning of your Senior year. If you are having difficulty with your choices, Mrs. Waide or Mrs. Seybert will help you.
· Of these choices, you should know the following information regarding each college.

· All of this information can be found in a college catalog. It is your responsibility to get applications and college catalogs, etc. on College Day (November 29, 2006). If you need to get information, applications, etc. from a particular college that was not here on College Day, Mrs. Waide will help you send for the information; however, if a college is here and you choose not to pick up the information, you are solely responsible for gathering your own information. Some colleges will not provide college catalogs. Mrs. Waide has catalogs for most of the colleges and universities in her office. You are welcome to borrow them at any time. Please return them after three days so other students may have access to them as well.
** Perryton High School will host a College Day on November 29, 2006. ** Representatives from colleges in Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas will be here to meet with Junior and Senior students and provide them with information on their respective schools. Representatives from the Armed Forces will also be available.
*** New for Texas College Admissions ***
All Texas universities are now accepting a Common Application for Admission.
This application can be used to apply to any Texas public university. This application is available in the counselor’s office or you may complete and submit it electronically over the Internet at Apply Texas
Also available in the counselor’s office is a publication titled The Guide to Applying for Admission to a Texas Public University. This publication lists all of the Texas public universities along with admission requirements, application fees and deadlines, scholarship deadlines, financial aid deadlines, websites, E-mail addresses, and majors available at each university. This information is also available over the Internet at Apply Texas. This website also contains important information regarding automatic admission for students graduating in the top 10% of their class, immunization requirements, TASP requirements, and tuition rebates. This web site is definitely worth your time!
*** New for College Admissions (for the year 2000 and beyond) ***
Several changes that will have a great impact on the service to students were decided by the 76th Texas Legislature. Senate Bill 510 guarantees a student automatic college admission to the Texas college or university of his/her choice if the following requirements are met.
(a) The student’s cumulative grade point average places him/her in the top 10% of the graduating class.
(b) The student applies no later than two years after graduating from a Texas high school.
(c) The student submits a completed application before the expiration of any filing deadline established by the college or university.
January - April:
· You should narrow your choices to ONE.
· You are allowed one college day to visit the school of your choice. (This does not count as an absence).
· Applications should be sent no later than the end of April. Some schools will have deadlines in March.

· Everything should be completed by May 1st.
